THE PREDICTION
This will be an intriguing clash between world number three Jannik Sinner, who made it 17 wins on the spin with a strong showing against Ben Shelton on Tuesday, and world number 32 Jiri Lehecka, who upset Stefanos Tsitsipas comfortably to reach the quarter-finals of a Masters event for the first time. 22-year-old Lehecka claimed his maiden ATP title at the Adelaide International in January but he struggled to emulate his career-best run to the last eight of the Australian Open, losing out to Tsitsipas at that stage last season, before coming back into form in recent weeks.
22-year-old Sinner enjoyed a very different experience in Melbourne, beating 10-time champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals before coming back from two sets down against Daniil Medvedev to claim his maiden major title, and he has shown very little sign of slowing down since. The Italian passed a significant test against livewire Shelton on Tuesday and he should be rewarded with the majority of the support this time around. Back Sinner to win in straight sets, despite Lehecka’s form, as he has done in each of his last six matches.
