THE PREDICTION
This will be a fascinating clash between world number one Iga Swiatek and former number one Caroline Wozniacki, with the pair facing just once before back in 2019. Swiatek came back from a set down to stun Wozniacki at the Canada Masters five years ago, as a relative unknown up-and-coming teenager, and she went on to lift her maiden Grand Slam title a year later at Roland-Garros – one of now four major titles amidst 19 career trophies.
33-year-old Wozniacki boasts 30 career WTA titles, a number Swiatek looks set to dwarf within the next few seasons, and just the one Grand Slam title picked up at the Australian Open in 2018 before later retiring there in Melbourne two years later. The Dane beat fellow veteran Angelique Kerber in straight sets on Tuesday to claim four wins on the spin for the first time since her comeback last summer but this looks far too steep of a challenge against Swiatek, who has conceded just 10 games so far this fortnight. Two former Indian Wells champions, Swiatek in 2022 and Wozniacki nine years prior, should make for an entertaining contest but back the top seed to come through relatively unscathed in straight sets.
TIP: IGA SWIATEK TO WIN 2-0
