World number 13 Grigor Dimitrov remains a credible dark horse for the latter stages of the Australian Open after passing a significant test against charismatic home hopeful Thanasi Kokkinakis in four sets on Thursday. 26-year-old Nuno Borges will break inside the top 60 for the first time after a huge upset over 23rd seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Thursday. The Portuguese brought some strong form into Melbourne after ending 2023 with victory at the Maia Challenger in his home town and he is yet to drop a set this week to pose a real threat. Dimitrov has dropped a set in each of his matches so far to suggest Borges can get his eye in here but back the Bulgarian, playing some of the best tennis of his career after so long in the wilderness, to make the round of 16.
