THE PREDICTION
World number 240 Francesco Passaro grabbed the biggest win of his young career in a huge comeback from a set down to upset 23rd seed Tallon Griekspoor on Friday. The 23-year-old has been rewarded for his efforts with a fixture on the Grand Stand Arena on Sunday, having been snubbed in the wildcard selections to have to earn his place in qualifying, and he will be backed to the hilt by home fans desperate to keep an Italian in the fight here in Rome.
World number 53 Nuno Borges beat Alexander Bublik in straight sets on Friday for an impressive way to back-up his comeback over clay specialist Pedro Martinez on Wednesday in a marathon match that neared four hours. Passaro has spent twice as long as the Portuguese on court this week, and that could eventually catch up with him here, but each of his last three matches have gone to deciding tiebreaks to suggest he is thriving on home clay. The Italian has seen six tiebreaks, and Borges two, so far in Rome to make taking at least one here the suitable way to avoid a result altogether.
TIP: OVER 0.5 TIEBREAKS
