World number 17 Felix Auger-Aliassime’s horror 2023 shows little sign of receding but the Canadian did at least stop the rot on Monday, snapping a four-match losing streak on tour (not including the Laver Cup) in three-sets over Aleksandar Vukic. The 23-year-old will have to face a similar challenge here in Sebastian Ofner who, like Vukic, has enjoyed his best season so far this year. The Austrian came into Tokyo at a career-high ATP world ranking of 47th after reaching the semi-finals of the Astana Open two weeks ago and he came back from a set down to beat Christopher O’Connell on Monday to look battle-hardened for this first encounter.
