THE PREDICTION

22-year-old Emma Navarro set a career-high WTA world ranking of 23rd after an excellent January saw her reach the semi-finals of the Auckland Classic, win her maiden title at the Hobart International, and then enjoy a strong run to the third round at the Australian Open. A three-set defeat to eventual semi-finalist Dayana Yastremska aged well but the American has dropped sets in each of her last four matches to suggest this could go the distance against a renowned scrapper in Jasmine Paolini. World number 25 Paolini continues to prove her doubters wrong with consistent strong runs across the tour. The 28-year-old ended last season as runner-up to Elise Mertens at the Jasmin Open and she reached the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time last month with a round of 16 exit to Anna Kalinskaya at the Australian Open.

Navarro beat the Italian in straight sets at the San Diego Open last September but three seem likelier this time around. Back the American to earn at least a set or risk the total of three sets option to avoid a result.
