THE PREDICTION
Former world number nine Roberto Bautista Agut has been struggling to find any sort of form on tour for the best part of a year now as his long and illustrious career appears to be winding down. The 35-year-old’s last victory at tour-level came in early February at the Marseille Open but he qualified well enough this week to earn a place in the first round of the Miami Open and he is well capable of bursting back into life in hot hardcourt conditions that suit him. However, fellow qualifier Emilio Nava will set a career-high ATP world ranking of 124th after impressive wins over Yoshihito Nishioka and Quentin Halys saw him roll into the main draw here and he will be backed to the hilt as an entertaining young home hopeful with some serious potential. RBA’s decline has lasted much longer than expected but the Spaniard should be able to gain some momentum at least one more time. Back Bautista Agut to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier of two capable winners of this first meeting.
