THE PREDICTION
World number five Elena Rybakina finally earned a win over Liudmila Samsonova on Saturday, ousting the Russian in three sets to get a point on the board in their now 4-1 head-to-head record. The 24-year-old will be boosted by the confidence of snapping one of the odder stats on the WTA tour but she has dropped two sets this week to under-aggressive players, after Danielle Collins troubled her in the round of 16, to suggest there is a formula for tacking her imperious game. World number 14 Daria Kasatkina is more of a defence orientated player but she has taken some tough foes to task this week, most impressively outlasting a tireless Beatriz Haddad-Maia in three sets on Saturday to reach her second final this season. 26-year-old Kasatkina has struggled to complete at this stage of a tournament in recent years, though, having lost each of her last three finals including to Jelena Ostapenko in Adelaide last month.
Rybakina is the only player to have beaten Aryna Sabalenka this season, doing so to lift the Brisbane title this time last month, and she looks the solid favourite with the better steel for key moments here. The pair share a 2-2 head-to-head record, with three of their four matches needing a decider, to make backing Rybakina to win outright the suitable call.
