THE PREDICTION

Former world number three Dominic Thiem has a huge opportunity to repair his damaged current ranking of 94th this week in Gstaad, where he won his third of 17 career ATP titles. The 29-year-old came very close to ousting world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas in a five set battle over two rain-delayed days at Wimbledon two weeks ago to leave more encouraging signs than concerns but the Austrian has more than enough to take this tournament by the scruff of the neck. World number 183 Hamad Medjedovic qualified well this weekend before an impressive comeback over Zhizhen Zhang on Monday. The 19-year-old Serb has won two Challenger titles on clay this season to look a creditable threat to a vulnerable Thiem but the Gstaad crowd are likely to get behind their former champion who seems to be on the cusp of a proper return. Take Thiem to win outright.
