Newcastle preview: Need a response

Newcastle United come into this one on the back of a 4-1 demolition at the hands of Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday in a game in which Newcastle were blown away and perhaps flattered by that scoreline in Yorkshire.

Prior to that, Newcastle started the season unbeaten with five points collected from three Premier League matches as well as victories against Championship sides West Bromwich Albion and Millwall in the EFL Cup.

Hull preview: Impressive Tigers

Having gained promotion back to the top-flight via the play-offs last season, Hull City have started this season with two victories and two draws in their opening four games of the Premier League with tough matches having been played too.

As well as beating Coventry City, Hull defeated Manchester United in their opener and now head to the North East after a goalless draw against Aston Villa and then an entertaining sharing of the spoils against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Newcastle team news: Elanga injury

A surprising omission announced late on before the game with Leeds was Sweden international winger Anthony Elanga, with Matthias Jaissle suggesting he could now be out ‘long-term’ after a strong start to the season.

Nico Gonzalez was also forced off with what appears to be a concussion and so is now a doubt for this one but both Amar Dedic and Jacob Ramsey did manage to be involved after respective issues, albeit the former may well be replaced in the eleven by Tino Livramento.

Newcastle vs Hull prediction

Hull had kept three successive clean sheets but even when rocked with an early Morgan Rogers strike away at Chelsea last week, The Tigers showed some resilience and attacking capabilities to take the lead in West London. Newcastle will be expected to show a response here and they will still be confident of winning and ending Hull’s unbeaten start to the season – but the visitors are showing a variety of qualities at the start of this season and so it may not be straightforward for the Geordies.
