World number 135 Taylor Townsend received a wildcard into the main draw of the Australian Open after some string form in singles and doubles late last season. The 26-year-old finished runner-up at in the Women’s Doubles at the US Open last September but she won the Adelaide 1 title alongside Asia Muhammad before finishing runners-up with Elena Rybakina last week at Adelaide 2. World number 107 Diane Parry is better than her current ranking suggests but the 20-year-old struggled to match her excellent performances at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, reaching the third rounds of both, later on the WTA tour. Wins over Barbora Krejcikova, defending champion in Paris, and Kaia Kanepi at SW19 are proof of what she can do but Parry has struggled to find wins in recent months.
