21-year-old Diane Parry could set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 50th after a solid opening victory over Jaqueline Cristian on Tuesday. The Frenchwoman has enjoyed an excellent start to 2024, reaching the third round at the Australian Open and building on that form with a career-best run to the last 16 at Indian Wells last week, where she upset Leylah Fernandez before a tight exit to eventual runner-up Maria Sakkari.
World number 13 Beatriz Haddad-Maia suffered an early exit at Indian Wells, losing from a set up to in-form Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, but after a choppy few weeks following her exhausting run to the last four at the Abu Dhabi Open she looks capable of bouncing back.
