South Africa’s batters made up for what is an injury-hit fast bowling line-up for the Proteas, guiding them to a 67-run win over Australia in game one of this series. After having made a fine start to their run chase of 298, the manner of the Aussies’ collapse will be most disappointing for them, as aside from the top three, only one other player scored more than 15 runs. Such a brittle mid-to-lower order won’t cut it against South Africa.
After having gained some much-needed time out on the field adapting to conditions, we should see Australia grow stronger as this series goes on. There were still positive signs from them to take out of Durban and they are not far away from the Proteas. The value move here would be to back Australia levelling things up.
