While Afghanistan’s win over Japan saw them qualify for the quarter-finals, they failed to back that result up with further success. In fact, they underwhelmed considerably against Nepal, who took full advantage by securing a well-deserved five-wicket victory, thus finishing top of Group A and forcing Afghanistan into a showdown with gold medal favourites India.
Having named a stacked squad, there’s no doubt that India are hugely motivated by the prospect of gold and looks far superior in all facets of the game compared to what is a very-much weakened Afghanistan squad. It would be a shock if India did not come out on top quite comfortably here.
