Hugo Gaston has produced his best ATP Tour run of 2026 in Hangzhou, beating Sho Shimabukuro before another impressive win over Jaime Faria. Gaston came from a set down, edging a crucial second set tiebreak before completing the turnaround in the third to win 4-6 7-6 (5) 6-4. His best tour-level result this season was a semi-final appearance in Estoril.

His next opponent is Andrey Rublev. The 28-year-old dominated his match against Rinky Hijikata, winning 6-3 6-4. Rublev did not face a break point and won 83% of his first serve points. This was his first match since a disappointing second-round loss at the US Open to Daniel Merida. He is hoping to win a second title this season, following earlier success at the Nordea Open.

Rublev leads the head-to-head 1-0, having comfortably beaten Gaston in Toronto last year. His weight of shot and overall firepower should be too much for the Frenchman once again.
