Former world number one Venus Williams is a three-time Miami Open champion, although her last title here came in 2001 – three years before 19-year-old Diana Shnaider was born. World number 62 Shnaider looks set for a good time in this blockbuster clash against a legend of the game, with home advantage obviously pulling for Williams but neutrals likely to enjoy the youngsters’ powerful play-style, and she comes in hot after finishing runner-up to Elisabetta Cocciaretto at the Charleston Challenger last weekend. Seven-time grand slam champion Williams is a total marvel as she continues to compete, albeit sparingly, at this level at 43 years old but it would be a surprise to see an up-and-comer like Shnaider, who claimed her maiden WTA title in February, shrink under the pressure here. Back the Russian to win, probably in straight sets.
