THE PREDICTION

Undeniable talent Denis Shapovalov overcame a slow start against Radu Albot on Monday to reach the second round at Wimbledon for the fourth time in his career, but having previously been a semi-finalist here in 2021 – his best run in any Grand Slam – the Canadian is capable of going much further. In Gregoire Barrere, though, he faces an opponent who is arguably in the form of his life having recently broken into the top 50 in the world. The Frenchman played out a tight match with Lloyd Harris in his own opener, but Shapovalov represents sterner opposition and this one is likely to go the way of the Canadian. A four-set victory for Shapovalov is the prediction.
