THE PREDICTION
This should be an interesting clash between former number 20 Daria Saville and former number 22 Shuai Zhang as they both desperately seek to rediscover their best tennis. 30-year-old Saville looked on the right road back up the rankings before a serious ACL injury in 2022 took her out of action for the best part of 12 months and she has so far struggled to make a significant return on tour, although there have been some signs in recent months. 35-year-old Zhang, however, is currently riding the longest losing streak in WTA history, with defeat from a set up to Mai Hontama two weeks ago at Indian Wells her 18th on the spin. The Chinese is too good of a player to never work out her current demons but whenever she eventually does so will come as something of a surprise given her last win came in January 2023. Back Saville to edge through, with three sets about as likely as two.
