World number 13 Holger Rune lost from a set up to Sebastian Baez at the Italian Open last time out as his troubling form continues in 2024. The 21-year-old has lost to tough foes in each of his four tournaments on his favoured clay so far but they were all, save a three-set exit to Jannik Sinner in Monte-Carlo, avoidable at anywhere close to his best level.
World number 60 Dan Evans is in even worse form at this moment in time, though, and a recent split with his coach suggests he is desperately searching for answers as to why. The 34-year-old is at his least effective on clay, even at his best, despite once stunning Novak Djokovic in Monte-Carlo but a 3-12 record for the year makes for grim reading.
