THE PREDICTION

World number 35 Tomas Martin Etcheverry has enjoyed a huge breakthrough season on tour but the majority of his ranking points come from results on his favoured clay. The 24-year-old did impress at the US Open, though, beating Otto Virtanen in three sets before going down swinging in four against Stan Wawrinka to prove he is still a threat on a hardcourt. World number 167 Dalibor Svrcina beat 37-year-old Zhe Li in straight sets on Wednesday but he looks for a much tougher test here. The 20-year-old also looks to enjoy his tennis on clay given his impressive results on the Challenger circuit this season but Etcheverry should be able to come through unscathed from this first meeting. Three sets are distinctly possible, though, so back Etcheverry to come through outright.
