THE PREDICTION
Both world number 11 Casper Ruud and number 22 Cam Norrie endured five-set thrillers on Thursday, with Ruud overcoming a herculean effort by home hopeful Max Purcell and Norrie coming back from two sets down to oust qualifier Giulio Zeppieri. 25-year-odl Ruud had won each of his first four matches in straight sets this year, with three singles wins at the United Cup two weeks ago seeing him take a five-match win streak into the third round, and he looks refreshed after a sorry end to last season. 28-year-old Norrie also struggled to match his first-half of 2023 with his second-half but he should be better for a tough scrap against Zeppieri with time enough to find some form. Ruud leads their head-to-head record 3-0 but this should be their closest tussle yet over five sets. Norrie has the whip to cause Ruud some stress but the Norwegian has brought a new approach to hardcourts this year that is so far paying off. Back Ruud to win outright, probably in four.
