THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Tomas Martin Etcheverry has worked hard over the past 12 months to bring himself up from Challenger level to full tour life and he can break the top 40 for the first time with a win here after an excellent straight-sets result over Alex de Minaur on Thursday. Etcheverry will be world number 16 Borna Coric’s third Argentine opponent in a row after the 26-year-old overcame a tough Pedro Cachin in five sets on Thursday, backing up a four-set victory over Federico Coria. Coric’s recent runs to the semi-finals of the Madrid Open and quarter-finals of the Italian Open are hard to ignore for form on clay, particularly his results over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Daniel Altmaier, but Etcheverry is a positive ball-machine who will fight to the end with significantly less time on court than his opponent after two rounds in Paris. Back Coric to earn at least two sets in this first encounter and leave the victor up to chance.
