THE PREDICTION
World number 14 Beatriz Haddad-Maia enjoyed an excellent run to the semi-finals of the Abu Dhabi Open last week, where she set the longest WTA match of the year so far in victory over Magda Linette. The 27-year-old featured in many of the longest marathon matches last season which is at once impressive as well as concerning, with her three-set exit to Daria Kasatkina on Saturday looking a little like exhaustion by the end. World number 41 Xinyu Wang took the first set against Cristina Bucsa before defeat in the first round in Abu Dhabi but she looked strong the week before, reaching the semi-finals at the Hua Hin Championships before defeat to eventual champion Diana Shnaider. The 22-year-old reached the round of 16 at the US Open last summer to prove herself serious potential, on hardcourts at least, but this looks too steep of a challenge at this moment in time as Haddad-Maia leads their head-to-head 2-0 at tour level. Back the Brazilian to win, with three sets about as likely as two.
