THE PREDICTION

Former world number two Paula Badosa brings a 3-3 record for 2024 into the Qatar Masters but she has struggled to maintain enough fitness to build any sort of momentum for the majority of the last two seasons. The 26-year-old was forced to retire from her round of 16 match with eventual champion Diana Shnaider at the Hua Hin Championships last time out to throw some doubt over her ability to play this opener against world number 82 Ashlyn Krueger, who qualified handily this weekend. 19-year-old Krueger will be well aware of her opponent’s fragility right now but Badosa has so far been able to find some her better tennis on the more prestigious stages, with an excellent run to the third round at the Australian Open suggesting the tennis is in there behind her frailties. Consider backing Krueger to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance but this match is probably best left alone in case Badosa cannot finish it.

TIP: ASHLYN KRUEGER TO WIN A SET
