19-year-old Arthur Fils brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 38th into the European Open after some strong recent results on tour, most recently upsetting Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the Shanghai Masters before a hard-fought three-set defeat to Tommy Paul. The Frenchman won his maiden ATP title on clay at the Lyon Open in May but back-to-back semi-finals on indoor hardcourts in February suggest he can enjoy a deep run in Antwerp. 20-year-old Mark Lajal will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 217th after beating Jaume Munar to claim his first tour-level win of the season. The Estonian brings little recent form off the tour into this biggest match of his career but Fils received a bye to the round of 16 as the fourth seed this week and a slow start could see sets go both ways. Back Fils to win outright inside an accumulator or in straight sets on its own.
