ARANTXA RUS VS ANGELIQUE KERBER PREDICTION
Former number one Angelique Kerber reached the round of 16 at the Italian Open last time out, upsetting Veronika Kudermetova before a competitive exit to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. The 36-year-old returned to tour from maternity leave at the start of the season and she has impressed in parts, with another last 16 exit at Indian Wells seeing a top 10 result over Jelena Ostapenko.
World number 49 Arantxa Rus is probably at her most effective on clay, proving so last summer by finally winning her maiden WTA title on the surface in Hamburg. The 33-year-old has lost three tour-level matches on the spin coming into Roland-Garros but she impressed on French clay last month, upsetting Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova before a quarter-final exit to Magda Linette.
It is a surprise to find that this is the first encounter between two tour veterans but back the more experienced Kerber to edge through.
