Team Europe look to have the upper hand here with world number six Andrey Rublev a very strong doubles player who could gel well with Arthur Fils’ fierce groundstrokes. The Russian won the Madrid Masters doubles title alongside Karen Khachanov back in May, his fourth doubles title, and he comes into the Laver Cup hot from a string run to the quarter-finals at the US Open. Home advantage is a very serious boon in this format, though, particularly in doubles in the last match of the day and Team World’s pairing of Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul have a point to prove. The pair both lost their two Davis Cup matches each last week as record title-holders USA crashed out of the group stages poorly and they will be eager to help defend Team World’s title on home soil to make amends. Tiafoe and Paul have occasionally joined forces on tour but a lot of this match relies on how well Fils and Rublev link up on their debut.
