THE PREDICTION
Defending champion Alex de Minaur conceded just three games to taro Daniel on Monday to get another promising week in Acapulco underway. The 25-year-old brings a career-high ATP world ranking of ninth into the draw after an excellent run to the final of the Rotterdam 500, where he finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner, and a shock early defeat to Alex Michelsen in Los Cabos last week was likely due to fatigue in this stacked period on the tennis calendar. 27-year-old Sebastian Ofner also brings a career-high of 37th into Acapulco but that came with a surprising five-match losing streak that he snapped, barely, in three sets against home hopeful Neto Escobedo on Monday. The Austrian enjoyed the bulk of his results on clay last summer and so it is interesting that he has so far struggled on the surface in 2024 before switching back hardcourts here in Mexico. Ofner should be better for surviving an early scare here but the crowd will be firmly behind their charismatic defending champ in this first meeting between the two. Take De Minaur to win in straight sets.
TIP: ALEX DE MINAUR TO WIN 2-0
