World number six Rafael Nadal was handed a walkover to the semi-finals after the impressive Tallon Griekspoor was forced to pull out. The Spaniard could have done with the match in all honesty as he desperately seeks playing time on court following a long injury lay-off, although the way looks fairly clear for a first tournament win on Sunday since the Italian Open last May. World number 95 Emil Ruusuvuori has been excellent this week in Melbourne and a comprehensive straight-sets win over in-form Alex Molcan sees him through to a first semi-final since last August. The 22-year-old Finn started last season in excellent form and fell away towards the end but he could do some damage in the early rounds of the incoming Australian Open. A defeat of Alexander Zverev last year at the Miami Open makes taking Nadal to win outright the sensible call here but with the Spaniard is unlikely to lose at this stage of any tournament to anyone outside the top 20.
