Current world number 13 Naomi Osaka is looking more assured with each passing round in Melbourne and her straight-sets victory over Andrea Petkovic on Friday was her most complete performance yet. The current Australian Open champion took several long absences from the tour last year for a myriad of reasons but so far the break looks to have done her some good and world number 31 Veronika Kudermetova will have to put in her best performance since this time last year if she is to reach a first tour final since April. 24-year-old Kudermetova has navigated past Madison Brengle and Anastasia Potapova in three sets so far this week but she is unlikely to see enough of the ball against Osaka to snatch a set here. The wise move is still taking Osaka as the outright winner given her continuing return to competitive tennis but the Japanese star should take this in two.
