World number 28 Grigor Dimitrov showed some real determination to come back form a set down to Botic van de Zandschulp on Friday as he nears a potential blockbuster with Rafael Nadal in the final here on Sunday. The 30-year-old produced some of his best tennis for years late last season and he has typically performed well in Australia with several quarter-finals and a 2017 semi-final at the Australian Open to boast. He faces world number 112 Maxime Cressy for a first time with the 24-year-old American continuing the way he left 2021 with some excellent performances. A comeback win over Reilly Opelka before his straight-sets defeat of Jaume Munar on Friday suggests he will be a serious threat to Dimitrov if the Bulgarian starts slowly once again but taking Dimitrov to eventually come through seems the most reasonable outcome here. A tiebreak seems likely but it would be a risky addition.
