THE PREDICTION
21-year-old Ann Li is yet to drop a set in Melbourne after three comprehensive wins over Mayar Sherif, Anastasija Sevastova and Kamilla Rakhimova. The seventh seed won her first WTA title last October at the Tenerife Ladies Open as part of some super late-season form and it took a comeback win from Clara Tauson to oust her from her last tournament of the year in Italy. A rematch looked on here in this semi-final but the Dane was forced to retire from her quarter-final with Aliaksandra Sasnovich, with the world number 76 a set up at the time. Sasnovich also found some of her best tennis at the end of 2021 with stunning victories over Simona Halep and recent US Open champion Emma Raducanu at Indian Wells. This looks a really tight call in a first meeting between Li and Sasnovich here and with neither dropping a set we have to go performances this week, with the Belarussian claiming the more impressive wins. Take Sasnovich to earn at least a set here.
