THE PREDICTION
World number 28 Marin Cilic is a man in form and he made short work of beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets in his first match since winning the St. Petersburg Open last week. The former world number three also made the final of the Kremlin Cup the week before but finished runner-up to Aslan Karatsev in Moscow. World number 39 Sebastian Korda was able to best Karatsev on Monday in a three-set thriller to set up a hugely exciting clash with Cilic here. The 21-year-old won his first ATP title earlier this season at the Emilia-Romagna Open and he also enjoyed deep runs at the Miami Open and Wimbledon.
This looks like it could be the match of the day between Sebastian Korda and Marin Cilic. Korda was the winner of their only previous encounter with a straight-sets victory at the Acapulco Open back in March but Cilic has really come into a rich vein of form with back-to-back finals in Russia and two ATP titles won this season, his first since 2018. There is probably a set in this for both players this time around so taking Croatian Cilic to win at least one of them seems the most reasonable outcome here.
