THE PREDICTION
Paris Masters 10th seed Cam Norrie took Reilly Opelka out in straight sets on Wednesday to back-up a total domination of Federico Delbonis on Monday. The British number one is chasing a previously unimaginable debut qualification at the year-end ATP Finals later this month and he starts the round of 16 in 11th place of the race with only 100 points between himself and eighth place Hubert Hurkacz. 26-year-old Norrie raced to a stunning Indian Wells title last month in what has been an incredible breakthrough year, with his first ever ATP title coming at the Los Cabos Open back in July. World number 26 Taylor Fritz is aiming to finish the season inside the top 20 for a first time after coming into some superb form at Indian Wells. The American looks set to finish as the year-end US number one in Men’s tennis too after Reilly Opelka’s defeat by Norrie on Wednesday.
There is already a lot of history between Cam Norrie and Taylor Fritz with the Brit leading their head-to-head record 4-3 after beating Fritz en route to his first ATP title at the Los Cabos Open this year. All seven of their meetings have come on hard courts, with Norrie winning their only indoors meeting at the St. Petersburg Open last season. Four of the seven meetings have seen a set go both ways, which is a distinct possibility here, but with both players seemingly at or near the top of their game Norrie has to be backed to win at least one set here as the likelier of two capable winners.
