THE LOWDOWN
World number 10 Hubert Hurkacz took an age to get going in his round of 16 clash with in-form lucky loser Dominik Koepfer producing some his best tennis to take the first set and a break in the second. 24-year-old Hurkacz eventually found his way through, though, and it proved to be an excellent day all around with Cam Norrie exiting at the round of 16 stage, leaving Hurkacz likely to qualify for the ATP Finals alongside Casper Ruud. That chance will increase with every passing round in Paris and the Pole has Masters pedigree behind him after winning the Miami Open back in April. 29-year-old James Duckworth is facing one of the biggest matches of his career here after a stunning run to a first Masters quarter-finals. The Aussie will break the top 50 for a first time no matter the outcome after besting Roberto Bautista Agut, Lorenzo Musetti and a solid Alexei Popyrin so far.
THE PREDICTION
With the pressure of qualifying for the ATP Finals largely over now for Hubert Hurkacz his level should improve after some tricky scrapes past Tommy Paul and Koepfer. The Pole looked a vastly more confident player towards the end of his match with the German and he will likely be too good for in-form James Duckworth to threaten for too long in this quarter-final. Duckworth will be something of an anomaly here, though, in uncharted waters at this level and riding the crest of a fantastic momentum. On any normal day this would be a straight-sets call for Hurkacz but in this first meeting and with Duckworth in the form of his life take the Pole to win outright.
