This should be a really entertaining first meeting between current world number 97 Donna Vekic, who reached a career-high 19th in the world just two years ago, and number 49 Clara Tauson, who is set to do the same very soon indeed. 25-year-old Vekic took Jasmine Paolini apart in the semi-finals on Saturday to reach the final without dropping a set, her first since finishing runner-up at the St. Petersburg Open in 2019. 18-year-old Tauson has faced the tougher draw this week and come through masterfully. The Dane has twice come back from a set down to take out the ninth seed Ann Li and third seed Liudmila Samsonova yesterday. The future star has already claimed two WTA finals this season at the Lyon Open and more recently, via an incredible victory over Jelena Ostapenko, the Luxembourg Open and that winning feeling should be stronger in her than her opponent. Vekic’s campaign this week deserves a trophy but Clara Tauson is a proper force to be reckoned with. Her 100% record in finals so far should see her through to a third as the outright winner here.
