• 39-year-old Williams won her 23^rd and most recent Grand Slam at the 2017 Australian Open, which was her seventh title here in Melbourne.

THE PREDICTION

The way in which Serena Williams overpowered and comprehensively defeated a fine competitor in Laura Siegemund should strike fear into the hearts of the rest of the draw at the Australian Open. The 39-year-old will have a clear and vital game plan throughout this tournament in order to conserve her energy to avoid losing a Grand Slam final for a fifth time since her last title win here in 2017. It took her 56 minutes to beat Siegemund and Nina Stojanovic is arguably an easier opponent for the world number 11 here. Stojanovic should probably be able to win a few more games now that Williams has revealed herself to be in fine form but this should still fall in straight sets to the seven-time Australian Open champion.
