- The Kazakh has managed to find quite a few warm-up matches to play so far this year having reached the final of the Antalya Open last month before playing twice at last week’s warm-up Great Ocean Road open.
DUSAN LAJOVIC
- World number 27 Dusan Lajovic took five gruelling sets to beat the Ukraine’s 35-year-old veteran Sergiy Stakhovsky, breaking a seven-match losing streak in doing so.
- The 30-year-old Serb had not win a match since the first round of the French open last September and is a player well capable of going on random streaks of form.
THE PREDICTION
World number 45 Alexander Bublik is an entertaining watch on court with an erratic nature that displays a full emotional range over five sets. Blessed with all the talent required to reach the top 20, the 23-year-old is still growing up and maturing slightly with each passing season. He should be a real test for world number 25 Dusan Lajovic, who struggled at last week’s ATP Cup but did manage to win his first match in seven attempts in the first round. It remains to be seen how that snapping of his losing streak will affect Lajovic but it is likely that five sets took a lot out of him and Bublik should be able to come through this particular challenge. Both players to take a set in a win for the 23-year-old seems a reasonable outcome here.
