THE PREDICTION

World number 139 Henri Laaksonen will be inspired by his Finnish compatriot Emil Ruusuvuori’s shock five-set victory over Gale Monfils on Monday as he faces Salvatore Caruso for the first time at tour-level. The 28-year-old Finn was the winner in a Challenger meeting back in 2019 but world number 78 Caruso enjoyed some decent form to end last season and will be the favourite for this one. 28-year-old Caruso beat the ninth seed Tennys Sandgren at last week’s Great Ocean Road Open to reach the round of 16 and the hard-working Italian should have enough to overcome Laaksonen here in a match in which both players grab a set.
