World number 83 Thiago Monteiro reached the third round of Roland-Garros last year and that should be the Brazilian’s benchmark at the Australian Open after an impressive warm-up week in the Great Ocean Road Open at Melbourne Park. Monteiro beat Jordan Thompson in straight sets in the quarter-finals before defeat to eventual runner-up Stefano Travaglia and that form should serve him well against Andrej Martin. The Slovakian has lost both matches he has played so far this year to make it a five-match losing streak at tour level now since the second round of Roland-Garros. It is difficult to predict of Martin can snatch a set here, though, so Monteiro to win by any means seems the safest option.
