THE PREDICTION

World number 178 Kimmer Coppejans stormed through the Australian Open qualifiers to reach the first round here for the first time. The 26-year-old has played and lost in just two first round matches at Grand Slams before now, both at Roland-Garros, and he will be desperate to make it third time lucky. However, Coppejans faces a consummate professional in Jiri Vesely, with the world number 69 entering off the back of a strong showing at the Murray River Open. 27-year-old Vesely made it all the way to the quarter-finals before losing to eventual runner-up Felix Auger-Aliassime and beat the fifth seed Casper Ruud along the way. Coppejans is a very good shot-maker and could grab a set in this one but the Czech should prevail. Both players to take a set in a Vesely win seems fair here.
