THE PREDICTION

Federico Delbonis and Juan Ignacio Londero will know each other well already and face each other in the first round of a Grand Slam for the second successive time after meeting at last season’s delayed Roland-Garros. On that day it took a mammoth final-set tiebreak (14-12) to separate the winner, Londero, from Delbonis and it could be a similarly tight match this time around. However, it could be argued that world number 77 Delbonis is the better player on hard courts, as Londero was the winner on clay at the French Open. Neither player has a win yet this season after losing in the first rounds of their warm-up tournaments at Melbourne Park and with little form to speak of this match seems a 50/50 that should not be included in any accumulators. Just four ATP places separate them, and it could be another marathon match. Both players to take a set here seems a safe option in a result that can go either way.
