THE LOWDOWN
JAN-LENNARD STRUFF
- 30-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff was instrumental in Team Germany’s stunning win over Team Serbia as he came from behind to beat Dusan Lajovic in the singles.
- The world number 37 then helped beat Novak Djokovic and Nikola Cacic alongside Alexander Zverev in the deciding doubles tiebreak to see off the reigning champions in style.
ANDREY RUBLEV
- 23-year-old Andrey Rublev has been unstoppable so far at the ATP Cup, conceding just seven games in two singles victories over Guido Pella and Yoshihito Nishioka.
- The world number eight played a doubles match alongside Aslan Karatsev earlier in the week and will likely play any doubles deciders alongside either Daniil Medvedev or Karatsev if required.
THE PREDICTION
This promises to be an excellent match between Andrey Rublev an in-form Jan-Lennard Struff off the back of his first defeat of Novak Djokovic, albeit via the doubles, as he instrumentally helped Team Germany into the semi-finals. The robust German number two will go all out here to offer Rublev’s first test of the campaign and he won the only previous meeting between the pair back in 2018 at the St. Petersburg Open. However, things have changed since then in Rublev as he continues to evolve into a tireless, almost demonic force on court and even though the romantic wants to suggest Struff can take a set here the cold likelihood is that Rublev can win this in straight sets.
