Tagir Ulanbekov (16-2) is coming into this bout on a three-fight winning streak and he will look to extend that in Baku. He last fought Clayton Carpenter at UFC 311 in January where he picked up a unanimous decision and he will be eager to continue his rise up the flyweight division.
With Kyoji Horiguchi initially slated to face Ulanbekow but being forced off the card, it is Azat Maksum (15-1) who steps up to face Ulanbekov with one month’s notice.
Maksum suffered the first loss of his professional MMA career last time out 18 months ago as Charles Johnson took the unanimous decision against him. He had won on his UFC debut against Tyson Nam, but his resume is a little inflated by a number of low-quality bouts.
Ulanbekov is a class above Maksum and we fully expect the Dagestani fighter to have too much for the Kazakh fighter. It may well go to the scorecards or potentially a submission but take Ulanbekov to win here.
