Sydney Thunder Preview: Warner heroics not enough

Sydney Thunder ended up setting Hobart Hurricanes 165 to win in Tasmania, thanks largely to David Warner’s excellent 88 not out which saw him bat through the innings. But they fell victim to Tim David’s pyrotechnics as Hobart comfortably chased their target down with more than three overs to spare.

The Thunder have been arguably over-reliant on Warner recently with the bat and their middle order needs to contribute more heavily if they are to turn scores in the 160s into totals closer to 200 when batting first.

Perth Scorchers Preview: Fallen off a cliff

Perth Scorchers have totally lost their way at the worst possible time and fans have every right to be concerned. It’s now three straight loss for them after they fell victim to the Steve Smith show at the SCG this past weekend. The Australia Test star’s 121 not out for Sydney Sixers laying the foundation for another Scorchers defeat.

Conceding 220 runs was always likely to leave them with too much to do and so that proved to be the case despite a valiant effort from Perth. Ashton Turner’s rapid 66 not out kept things respectable, but the target was just too high.

Sydney Thunder Betting Analysis

From a betting perspective, there is nobody else more attractive at the moment in terms of investment within the Sydney Thunder side than Warner, who has been rolling back the years with his current form. Warner now has 316 runs to his name across seven innings at an average of 63.20, having passed the half-century mark three times. It’s well worth backing Warner to finish yet another Sydney Thunder fixture as their top batter.

Perth Scorchers Betting Analysis

Perth Scorchers may well be banking on extra pace to do the most damage for them bowling-wise at Engie Stadium. This brings Lance Morris into play, as the ‘Wild Thing’ looks to add to his current BBL 14 wickets column. With five wickets in his last two appearances for the Scorchers, backing Morris to record 2+ wickets here if he is selected.

Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers Expert Prediction

If Perth Scorchers can rediscover their potent edge with the ball, then they can snap their losing streak here against a Sydney Thunder side still substantially weakened, with key players absent and their team arguably too dependent on one player (Warner) for runs. The depth within Perth Scorchers’ line-up is deeper on paper and it would be no surprise to see them narrowly get the better of the Thunder.
