Southampton Preview: Sorry Saints

In his second spell as interim boss this season following the sackings of both Russell Martin and then Ivan Juric, Simon Rusk appeared to have slightly improved the performance level of Southampton but Saints now look set to finish the season on just 11 points.

That would see them join Derby County from 2007/08 as the lowest ever Premier League points tally after a 2-0 defeat to also relegated Leicester City at the weekend before games at home to Manchester City and Arsenal as well as away at Everton in the final game at Goodison Park.

Man City Preview: City saving their season

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have put together a run of form at an excellent time to mean a top five finish and UEFA Champions League qualification now appears something of an inevitability as they sit a few points clear of fifth with four successive victories ahead of this one.

The visitors also have the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium against Crystal Palace to look forward to next weekend after edging past Wolverhampton Wanderers by a goal to nil at the Etihad Stadium last week thanks to a first-half strike from Kevin De Bruyne.

Southampton Team News: Fully fit

Interim boss Simon Rusk has been careful to give anything away with regards to potential injury issues in his squad. He did say that 'we have a fairly clean bill of health'. Mateus Fernandes is expected to be good to go after slight concerns over his fitness following his substitution against Leicester last weekend.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Ramsdale; Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens; Walker-Peters, Downes, Ugochukwu, Manning; Fernandes, Sulemana; Stewart

Man City Team News: Haaland back

Pep Guardiola has said that Norway international striker Erling Haaland is fully fit and can start for City this weekend. Rodri is training but remains unavailable alongside Nathan Ake, John Stones and Oscar Bobb.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Silva, Kovacic; Marmoush, De Bruyne, Doku; Haaland

Unavailable: Ake (Injured), Stones (Injured), Rodri (Fitness), Bobb (Fitness)

Southampton vs Man City Prediction

Southampton have been woeful throughout this campaign with just two victories and 11 points collected. Saints had seemingly shown some improvement under Rusk are now destined for a historic low this season. Manchester City have rediscovered a winning touch of late and the visitors will be expected to now comfortably finish in the top five – and even as runners’ up. They are firm favourites for a comfortable victory down at St Mary’s.

Southampton vs Man City Tip: Man City to win -1 handicap
