THE TEAM NEWS

WARRINGTON WOLVES

  • Warrington Wolves suffered another humiliating loss as they capitulated late on against Catalans Dragons to fall to a seventh loss from their last nine Super League outings and they have it all to do to stop the rot as they host defending champions St. Helens.
  • The Wolves were level at the break but conceded 34 second half points while adding just two of their own which saw them succumb to a 40-8 loss as the Dragons ran rampant in the closing stages but they could be boosted by the return of Gareth Widdop for this contest.

21-man squad: 1 Stefan Ratchford, 3 Peter Mata’utia, 4 Toby King, 5 Matty Ashton, 6 Gareth Widdop, 7 George Williams, 8 Joe Philbin, 9 Daryl Clark, 10 Mike Cooper, 11 Ben Currie, 12 Oliver Holmes, 14 Jason Clark, 15 Joe Bullock, 17 Matt Davis, 18 Billy Magoulias, 19 Robbie Mulhern, 23 Connor Wrench, 24 Ellis Longstaff, 25 Ellis Robson, 27 Riley Dean, Luke Thomas

Questionable: Gareth Widdop

ST. HELENS

  • St. Helens showed their class as they bounced back from their Challenge Cup disappointment by overcoming Hull FC on their return to league action last week as they solidified their spot at the top of the table.
  • Saints were pushed hard in the first half but a try just before the break changed the game in their favour and they were able to kick-on in the second half with head coach Kristian Woolf unlikely to make many changes to his 17 for this contest with Regan Grace failing to prove his fitness from a hamstring injury.

21-man squad: 1 Jack Welsby, 2 Tommy Makinson, 4 Mark Percival, 6 Jonny Lomax, 8 Alex Walmsley, 9 James Roby, 10 Matty Lees, 11 Sione Mata’utia, 12 Joe Batchelor, 13 Morgan Knowles, 14 Joey Lussick, 15 Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 16 Curtis Sironen, 17 Agnatius Paasi, 19 Jake Wingfield, 20 James Bell, 21 Josh Simm, 22 Ben Davies, 23 Konrad Hurrell, 24 Dan Norman, 29 Daniel Hill

THE PREDICTION

Warrington Wolves have produced some woeful efforts so far this season and now facing leaders St. Helens, there must be a reaction to last week’s terrible second half showing or they will face a similar fate. The Wolves crumbled as they allowed Catalans Dragons to score at will in the final quarter of that game to leave Daryl Powell’s side with just two wins in their last ten games in all competitions. Saints on the other hand bounced back from their Challenge Cup exit to Wigan Warriors by seeing off Hull FC and with five wins in their last six league games to their name, the table toppers are likely to be too good once again in this one and they can cover the -7.5 handicap.
