Routes to victory for Warrington Wolves against Salford Red Devils

Warrington Wolves made it two wins from two to begin the new Super League campaign and will fancy their chances of prevailing again as they take on a Salford Red Devils outfit that went down to Hull KR last week. Here, TSZ explores three reasons why the Wolves can maintain their perfect start to the season:

METRE EATERS

While the season is only two games old, Warrington top the charts in terms of most metres made in the league. The Wolves have recorded 2,874 metres to date with their pack doing a superb job of laying the platform for the backs. Matty Ashton has also produced 330 metres to highlight his running threat on the wing and Salford have a big job on their hands to contain their opponents here.

SALFORD DEFENDING TOO MUCH

Again, this is only over an extremely small sample size but it will be an early worry for the Red Devils. As a team, they have been forced to make a league-high 729 tackles so far this season. While they have shown they can defend well on the whole, if Warrington are able to march up the field as a result of their ability to make metres, Salford may find their goal-line defence being tested too frequently.

ERRORS THE KEY

Salford’s issue last week was their poor ball retention as they continually coughed it up. They will need to fix that here against a team that have produced few errors so far. The Wolves have made just 12 errors in their two games so far while the Red Devils have made almost double that with 22 and if the respective averages per game of six and 11 end up being somewhere near the total of the two teams in this game, it is likely to indicate that the home side will have prevailed.
