Roma preview: Unbeaten Romans

Gian Piero Gasperini is continuing to build his Roma side and those impressive attacking patterns were on show at the weekend as the Giallorossi fought back from 2-0 down to share a thrilling 3-3 draw with Napoli at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The Giallorossi have now drawn three of their last four matches in Serie A but they remain unbeaten after eight games as they begin the midweek match day sitting four points adrift of defending champions Internazionale and arch-rivals Lazio.

Cagliari preview: Out of form Sardinians

Fabio Pisacane began the season under pressure but Cagliari have been much-improved this season with four wins and a draw in their opening six matches but the Sardinians now head into this one on the back of back-to-back defeats.

Cagliari most recently succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at home to Bologna due to second half goals scored by Nicolo Casale and Federico Bernadeschi at the weekend after they had been hammered 4-0 by Monza the week before.

Roma team news: Dybala could return

Paulo Dybala is working his way back to full fitness after a recent calf issue but club captain Lorenzo Pellegrini now remains sidelined alongside key man Manu Kone and first-choice goalkeeper Mile Svilar.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Gollini; Mancini, Ndicka, Mario Hermoso; Rensch, De Roon, Pisilli, Wesley; Matias Soule, Cristante; Malen

Unavailable: Svilar (Injured), Bah (Injured), Kone (Injured), Pellegrini (Injured)

Questionable: Dybala (Fitness)

Cagliari team news: Winks a doubt

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has been key for Cagliari so far this season but the Englishman is now a doubt for the visitors as a result of a back injury.

Predicted XI (4-1-2-1-2): Caprile; Ze Pedro, Deiola, Javi Rodriguez, Obert; Gagliardini; Adopo, Romano; Massolin; Maldini, Mendy

Unavailable: Felici (Injured), Idrissi (Injured)

Questionable: Trepy (Fitness), Winks (Injured)

Roma vs Cagliari prediction

Cagliari’s fine start to the season was built on an impressive defensive record and the form of now Italy international attacker Daniel Maldini. However, a blip from Maldini made things quite low percentage and Cagliari have since been punished as they regress towards the middle-of-the-table. Roma could do with rediscovering a winning consistency but they should come out on top in this one in the Italian capital city.
