Novak Djokovic overcame an injury scare to defeat Cameron Norrie for the seventh time in a row and make the round-of-16 at Flushing Meadows. Djokovic needed treatment on his back in the first set, while he also recovered from a drop in his level which saw Norrie level the match up and go an early break up in the third. The 24-time Grand Slam champion quickly regained control and won 6-4 6-7 6-2 6-3.

He will face Jan-Lennard Struff, who continued his brilliant run in New York with a straight sets win over two-time semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe. The German was broken when serving out the match in the third but recovered well as he saved a set point in the tiebreak to win 6-4 6-3 7-6.

Djokovic dominates the head-to-head, winning all seven of their matches including five on outdoor hard court, with one of those being in the third-round of this tournament in 2020. This event has been a huge step in the right direction for Struff after a difficult season, but it’s likely to come to an end at the hands of Djokovic.
